Mobilink, Pakistan’s market leader in cellular services and subsidiary of Orascom Telecom, organized blood donation camps at two of its Islamabad offices. The blood donation drive was conducted in collaboration with Fatimid Foundation & Sundas Foundation to collect blood for children of deserving families suffering from a range of chronic and life threatening illnesses including Thalassaemia, and many other blood diseases.
Thalassaemia is genetic blood disorder, transmitted to the off-springs from their parents. Due to a high carrier rate of this disease in our society, more than 5,000 children are born with this disease every year and their healthy survival depends on regular blood transfusion for the rest of their life. Many children succumb to early demise because of not being able to receive in-time blood transfusion.
More than 450 Thalassaemia patients will benefit from the blood donated by Mobilink employees during the blood drive organized under the patronage of Mobilink Foundation, in collaboration with Fatimid Foundation and Sundas Foundation in Islamabad. Employee volunteerism is a core value of Mobilink’s Culture of Excellence and employees are strongly encouraged to develop a humanitarian spirit. The Torchbearers are sanctioned to clock an average of 4 to 5 dedicated hours per person per month during official working hours. On average the volunteers spent more than 4,800 hours in 2009 in community service initiatives.
Mobilink appreciates Fatimid Foundation and Sundas Foundation for playing a very positive and supportive role in saving innocent lives and facilitating free of cost transfusion and treatment to needy children.
