LG To Unveil Verizon Wireless’ First LTE USB Modem

LG Electronics (LG) today announced the launch of the LG VL600™, the first LTE (Long Term Evolution) USB modem for Verizon Wireless, the largest wireless service provider in the United States.

Ideal for business professionals on-the-go, the LG VL600 features high-speed 4G internet connectivity, a lightweight design with a flip USB cover and sleek outer finish that makes traveling a streamlined, enjoyable experience. By just connecting with the LG VL600, customers in the 4G LTE service area can expect high speeds of 5 to 12 Mbps (megabits per second) on download and 2 to 5 Mbps on upload for high quality multimedia content, more than 10 times faster than 3G.

“It is really exciting for us to be releasing the first LTE USB modem with Verizon Wireless, who is aggressively leading the commercialization of LTE services in the world,” said Jeff Hwang, President of LG Electronics MobileComm USA, Inc. “And for LG, this is just the first step. Along with Verizon, we’re committed to making LTE products faster and ever-more innovative, ensuring that LG stays at the forefront of developments in LTE technology.”

The LG VL600 boasts a 4-color LED Service Status Indicator and supports major operating systems including Windows? XP, Vista™ and Windows? 7. It has a built-in antenna and is both extremely light (50 g) and compact (98.5 x 37.6 x 14.7 mm).

Since the early stages of LTE standardization in 2004, LG has been leading the development of LTE technology. LG succeeded in developing an LTE chipset in December 2008 and demonstrated the world’s first handover between a 4G LTE-enabled mobile device and an LTE-CDMA network in 2009. In 2010, LG further cemented its leadership in the next-generation mobile communications market by successfully demonstrating an LTE world-record download speed of 100 Mbps at CES 2010.
